Tonight

It's been a fairly long day, but not bad. I haven't been "discovered" yet, and I'm not sure how to discover others on here either. I'm sure to find out. Guess I'll know if anyone's peeking if I see any comments or votes on my survey.

Teaching is interesting. Universities these days have ceased to be seats of learning. Instead, they are training factories, churning out workers for the moguls of Wall Street and their industrial partners in crime. The MBA is king of the hill. And about as useful as a belly button. Everybody's got one, but they have no purpose after you're born. What happened to a good liberal education? Can't take art appreciation or literature - classes cost too much and they are of no use in my "career," many would say. And after all the classes, folks have to jump through a few more hoops by taking tests that have no use other than making ETS rich. Teachers don't major in real subjects. They're too busy preparing so they can pass the PRAXIS for their certification. What's the use of taking all those courses? Oh I see . . . to keep the school of education in business.

To prove how customer friendly we are, the students get to stick it to us with their course evaluations, which department chairmen actually read! My two worst students write that mine is the worst course they have ever taken. They hate the content and it doesn't relate at all to the course description. Never mind that they are chronically late when they bother to come at all, talk through lectures and discussions, always sit on the back row, generally act bored, and often walk out early, complain about Cs on their work and generally blow off the classes. Hell, they've already defied the attendance requirement and still expect to pass and intend to makd my life hell if they don't. But then, it's really hard work living in a society of victims.

As I said, it's been a long day and I'm tired and cranky. Maybe I'd better wait for a good night's sleep before continuing. I'm in my life's-a-bitch-and-then-you-die mode. But it'll pass, just as soon as I get home and make myself a turkey salad sandwich.

Publicity Seekers . . . or Not

Hey, how 'bout those party crashers! Don't you just love it when the press gets so scornful about self promoters. And how do they scoff? By giving them all the publicity they want. As much as I love THE VIEW, those gals just can't get ENOUGH of these publicity seekers. Do they even realize how much they have bought into these people when they talk about them for days at a time?

And poor Tiger Woods. I really feel for him. This man is a great athlete who is a celebrity against his will. To his mind, all he does is play good golf. He isn't a "star but a competitor whose successes are reported on the news. I'm not so sure he would like to be the subject of an ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT segment. He's just doing what he does to make a living.
He is a "role model" by default. And today on THE VIEW, Elisabeth, that judgmental rep of the right, lets us know that as a role model, he has an obligation. WHAT?!

Now if Lizzy and Whoopi et al. want to put themselves out there in front of the great unwashed masses every weekday morning, then let THEM be role models. They are seeking the publicity. If they can't see the difference between themselves and Tiger, who else can. Let the "working stiff" earn his living at the country clubs, where he tries to stay off the TV camera except in big tournaments where he can't avoid them. If he wants to sleep around - or not - whose business is it? Leave that to the self promoters, which included every siingle entertainer who has ever sought the spotlight. They do it at their peril, when it comes to public intrusion into their private lives.

And Barbaba . . . GET A LIFE! Lady Gaga a fascinating person? to whom? Don't we have more important things to do than ooh and ahh over people who like to dress funny and parade around as if they have talent? Why not leave the decision about who is ir is not fascinating to each of us, if that matters to any of us. Oh, I know you have your audience for such things, so you and Perez Hilton can gossip together. But don'tmake the rest of us nauseous with it. The only hot topics I like on your show are those with some degree of substance. By the way, no offense intended, Whoopi. I really like most of your comments - they show a lot of depth of thought. LOVED your rant about the airlines!
